Sometimes in our shared work, we all know an important moment is coming. Sometimes it’s a date on the calendar. Sometimes its an annual rite. Either way, when these moments arrive, good communicators venture to maximize them and define the moments in an advantageous way.
Opinion pieces – such as op-eds and blog posts – are a great way to get out your organization’s message on your own terms and timeline. What, however, will make your piece stand out and get selected for a newspaper’s opinion page or picked up on a blog? We suggest a few tips for creating persuasive and unique op-eds and blog posts.

Many of our engagements at FCP are episodic. That means we work with an organization or philanthropy on a short-term project. And when the project ends, we part as colleagues and friends. Often, our work plants the seed for news stories that take quite a while to grow.
At FCP, basketball is in our blood. Little-known fact: the name Full Court Press was inspired by the many Saturdays Dan and his Dad spent watching “triple-headers” of Big 5 basketball at Philadelphia’s famed Palestra.
So it’s no surprise that FCP has an annual March Madness Pool – this year we year celebrated our 10th Anniversary pool.
We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2013 pool. Dr. Eliza “Pippa” Shulman is a Boston doctor, a mom, and an activist for health reform. She is also the sister of FCP’s first employee – Alex Shulman. Pippa bested a dozen participants and for her victory, FCP will make a donation to Alameda County Meals on Wheels in her name. Kudos to Pippa for her basketball knowledge!
